A Story Of Love, My Uncle George

As Father's day approaches my thoughts go to the man who was like a Father to me. Thanks be to the stars above I had a lovely great Uncle. His name was George and he always had a smile and a kind word to say. He opened doors for you, walked on the street curbside to protect you ,always gave you a good night kiss and was genuinely interested in what was going on in your life. You never doubted he loved you.  I would spend lots of weekends with him and my Aunt. As a nightly ritual we would walk the dog. We would walk and talk about the moon watching over us, have deep philosophical conversations about life and love. He was one of the best friends I have ever had. A great example of a kind, courteous, and loving man.
It has been many years since he passed away and some of the last times I saw him are special memories to me. One Thanksgiving he got to travel north to my house, he was so happy to be there. He wanted a tour of my house and as we went from to room to room he commented about many things he liked. He was smiling and happy. I have a great picture of him and I on that day! I cherish it beyond words.
Another time he was living in an assisted living facility and I came for a visit after many months of not seeing him. I walked down the long hallway to his room and he was standing in the doorway without his glasses on. He called out to me, "Kelly, I knew it was you!"He recognized me just by my voice. We had a special bond that I know lives on and will never go away.
Moments like this make my heart happy. After many years and miles of life and the footprints of sadness, mistakes, stumbles and rebirth and the thankfulness it entails I know I was loved!
So today I remember Uncle George with the fondest love and joy!
Thank you Uncle George for your unwavering love for me. I shall see you someday over the rainbow I'm sure.
Tell me a memory of your Father or someone who was like a Father to you!

A special memory I have with him is the day we found a coin in the park and we spent hours it seemed cleaning it to see what treaure was to be found. After much scrubbing and discussing we discovered....a nickel! Haha! It was great! He was such a wonderful loving human being! To you Uncle Gerorge, we love you!

  6. Great story. Thanks so much for sharing. I have wonderful memories of my great grandfather. I had no doubt that he loved me. Unfortunately I only had him for a few years as he passed away when I was 10 year old.
