 For The Love Of Vintage

Why do you like vintage items ?

Vintage is soothing to my soul. I guess you could say it's my comfort food.

Why did you choose Etsy ?

I absolutely fell in love with Etsy from my first click. I saw all the neat shops and just kept saying "I have that, I love that"!

What kind of  vintage items are you attracted to ?

I guess that anything from the 70's, I was a teen during the early 70's. How I wish I still had all that stuff. But I love anything from the 40's through the 70's. I do have a hard time thinking that anything from the 80's would be considered vintage, guess I'm showing my age :)

Where do you find most of your items?

I have lots of things that have been passed on to me from my grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. I am so lucky to live in a small southern town that is blessed with lots of thrift stores. I thrift store shop everyday on my lunch hour.

Tell us something about yourself.

I grew up on a dairy farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. I live in a log home on the property of this farm. I have been married to a man of 34 years who lovingly calls me a hoarder of vintage. We have four children and five grandchildren.

Thank you Sharon for giving us a chance to get to know you better and thank you for the lovely GIVEAWAY item! Please go visit Sharon's shop Sherbie Herbie and don't forget to enter the giveaway!

Sign Of Hope

Green glass collection from Zenful Goods!   http://www.etsy.com/shop/ZenfulGoods

Do you have certain items in your house that just speak to you? What kinds of things do you like to collect? I love green glass and Cardinals. My favorite color is green and I love the way the light shines through the glass. It adds a mystical earthy feel to any room.

Cardinal Figurine from Faith N Hope 10! http://www.etsy.com/shop/faithnhope10

Cardinals have a special meaning to me. Many years ago when I was going through a hard time in my life I was looking out the window and asking, "Why me?" All of a sudden a Cardinal landed in a tree close by and I felt it was a sign that everything would be OK.

Twenty-one months ago I lost my beloved sister in a tragic accident. It has been devastating to me. Seeing a Cardinal gives me hope when I'm down. Whether it's while camping or inside my house I always seem to see one. For me it's a sign that I'm being taken care of and everything is going to be fine. It is my sign of hope.

What kinds of things do you like to collect? Why do you collect them? Do they give you comfort and mean something special to you?
I don't know if it's magical, mythical or spiritual maybe all three but for me the things I collect, I collect for reasons of the soul.
Green glass + Cardinal's = My signs of hope.

For The Love Of Vintage

Why do you like vintage items ?

I grew up with them. Both my mother and grandmother have been antique dealers and interior decorators for many years. Our house was full of antique and vintage items and there were always things mom brought home that my brothers and I admired. She's a researcher at heart and makes a point to explain the function of a piece in its historical context. Being the youngest of three boys, I often traveled with my mom to shows and sometimes, during the summer, I would just hang out at her shop. So from an early age I developed a sense of appreciation of all things antique and vintage. My girlfriend (of 11 years) has become a collector and now a dealer herself. Our home is full of neat old stuff.

Why did you choose Etsy ?

Etsy has always intrigued me, long before vintage items were for sale on the site. I was impressed with the quality and creativity of handmade goods that were offered. Now the same goes for vintage, too. There are obviously many shopkeepers who take seriously the process of selecting and showcasing their vintage wares. Etsy is a great place to learn and connect!

What kind of  vintage items are you attracted to ?

Right now I tend to gravitate towards metal office supplies, luggage, old toolboxes, briefcases, stuff like that. Man stuff at the moment.

Where do you find most of my items?

Estate sales, yard sales and thrift stores. Lately I've been venturing into auctions and have picked up some really neat items for cheap.

Tell us something about yourself.

I have a collection of action figures that's probably in the hundreds by now. And I play with them.

Thank you Tony for giving us a chance to get to know you better and thank you for the GIVEAWAY item! Please go visit Tony's shop mAntiqueTony and don't forget to enter the giveaway!

A Story Of Love, My Uncle George

As Father's day approaches my thoughts go to the man who was like a Father to me. Thanks be to the stars above I had a lovely great Uncle. His name was George and he always had a smile and a kind word to say. He opened doors for you, walked on the street curbside to protect you ,always gave you a good night kiss and was genuinely interested in what was going on in your life. You never doubted he loved you.  I would spend lots of weekends with him and my Aunt. As a nightly ritual we would walk the dog. We would walk and talk about the moon watching over us, have deep philosophical conversations about life and love. He was one of the best friends I have ever had. A great example of a kind, courteous, and loving man.
It has been many years since he passed away and some of the last times I saw him are special memories to me. One Thanksgiving he got to travel north to my house, he was so happy to be there. He wanted a tour of my house and as we went from to room to room he commented about many things he liked. He was smiling and happy. I have a great picture of him and I on that day! I cherish it beyond words.
Another time he was living in an assisted living facility and I came for a visit after many months of not seeing him. I walked down the long hallway to his room and he was standing in the doorway without his glasses on. He called out to me, "Kelly, I knew it was you!"He recognized me just by my voice. We had a special bond that I know lives on and will never go away.
Moments like this make my heart happy. After many years and miles of life and the footprints of sadness, mistakes, stumbles and rebirth and the thankfulness it entails I know I was loved!
So today I remember Uncle George with the fondest love and joy!
Thank you Uncle George for your unwavering love for me. I shall see you someday over the rainbow I'm sure.
Tell me a memory of your Father or someone who was like a Father to you!
